The Power of the Solstice
The winter solstice marks the longest night of the year. The day with the most darkness and the least light. How does this relate to our spiritual path?
Darkness may be looked at as the "void" or absence of light. It is the night sky without any stars. In darkness everything mingles until the light is drawn out.
The solstice is evident in our outer world and it is also evident within us. Each one of us has a place within of complete stillness and darkness. This place is often feared. Perhaps because we don't understand the power of the void, or the darkness. At this time, you may use the power of your own inner silence and stillness to fuel you.
Take about ten minutes time- close your eyes and go deep inside, connect with the silence and the darkness within you. Be with the void or the absence of light. When you are there, you may feel as if you want to run or hide or turn on the "light". Instead, think of this darkness as the star-less night sky. Pure potential, vast and limitless. It may seem daunting, but that is the power that is you! Pure, limitless and vast.
As you sit in this peaceful place, you will see a light appear, like the first star in the twilight sky. See that light as something you want to give birth to. A new career path, a friendship, a new attitude, a dream, or vision, whatsoever it is for you. It is emerging right out of the darkness. It grows and sparkles and shines brightly. Welcome this light.
This is the power of the solstice. The darkness is a fertile place for the new to emerge.
